With a desire to bring his photographs off the walls and into the home as functional and fine art, Russell Phillips produces one of a kind sculptures, 3 dimensional wall compositions, and graphic tables that incorporate his original surface designs through the use of new imaging technologies.

 

The Sculptures

The sculptures began by reimagining architectural imagery, breaking down and reassembling familiar structures into new forms. These concepts grew to blend natural and man-made elements, creating a dialogue between form, space, and perception that invites viewers to rethink their experience of art and the environment.

 

The Tables

In keeping with a vision of using re-purposed or sustainable materials to make fine art, many tables begin with either found objects, or are purchased from charity resale shops. Russell has also designed a line of knockdown tables made from a sustainable, environmentally friendly, engineered wood. This is art you can live with everyday, and furniture, as you have never seen it.

 

The Photographer

Russell Phillips was born in the U.S., but spent his formative years in Brazil, returning to the U.S. for his education at the Kansas City Art Institute (BFA) and the Institute of Design, IIT Chicago (MS). His photographs have been exhibited around the country including the Chicago Cultural Center; the Chicago History Museum; and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art; and are part of numerous collections including the Illinois State Museum; Chicago History Museum; Seagrams Canadian Center for Architecture; University of Illinois: Chicago; The Bank of America LaSalle Photography Collection; and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri.

 

Russell’s studio is located north of Chicago in Highland Park IL.
